Which Phonak EasyGuard Dome Do I Need?

In most cases, simply choose the same style and size you wear now. If you currently use a Medium Vented Phonak 4.0 dome, a Medium Vented EasyGuard dome is the natural replacement. [CHECK sizes match 4.0] If you are changing style, check with your audiologist first, as a different dome can change how your hearing aid sounds.

EasyGuard Open Domes

Highly ventilated for a natural, open-ear feel. Best for mild to moderate high-frequency hearing loss where you want to hear low-pitched sounds naturally and avoid a blocked-ear sensation. Sizes: Small, Medium, Large.

EasyGuard Vented Domes

The middle ground between open and closed. Small vents let air circulate and reduce the “boomy” sound of your own voice, while holding more amplification than an open dome. The most popular choice for mild to moderate hearing loss. Sizes: Small, Medium, Large.

EasyGuard Power Domes

A double-layer design that creates a tighter seal to reduce whistling (feedback) and support more low-frequency amplification. Designed for moderate to severe hearing loss. Five sizes – Small, Small/Medium, Medium, Medium/Large and Large – for a precise fit.

How Phonak EasyGuard Domes Protect Your Hearing Aid

Earwax is the most common reason a hearing aid goes quiet or sounds muffled. Standard domes rely on a tiny wax filter at the tip of the receiver, and when that filter clogs the sound drops until it is cleaned or replaced.

Phonak EasyGuard domes add a sealed, sound-transmitting membrane across the dome opening. Wax and debris collect on the outside of the membrane before anything reaches the receiver, and you simply wipe it away with a dry cloth. Your CeruStop wax filter stays in place as a second line of defence, but it clogs far less often – so you need to replace filters less frequently.

Phonak’s data shows that wax and filter problems account for around 38% of hearing aid service cases (Phonak Field Study News – PDF Download), so this small innovation is an exciting change for everyday hearing aid care. [CHECK figure against PDF]

Benefits of Phonak EasyGuard Domes

  • Protects the receiver from wax build-up – the membrane stops earwax before it reaches the electronics, helping protect performance and extend receiver life.
  • Fewer wax filter changes – less fiddly maintenance, especially helpful if you have limited dexterity or eyesight.
  • Clearer, more consistent sound – fewer blockages mean fewer days of muffled or quiet hearing.
  • Simple to clean – wipe with a dry cloth; no tools needed and no need to remove the dome.
  • Comfortable for all-day wear – soft, medical-grade silicone in the same familiar Open, Vented, and Power shapes.
  • Well rated by wearers – in Phonak’s field study, 68% of participants preferred EasyGuard to their previous domes. [CHECK figure against PDF]

How to Change a Phonak EasyGuard Dome

  1. Remove the old dome – hold the receiver and pull the dome straight off. Check that no silicone is left on the tip.
  2. Fit the new dome – push the EasyGuard dome firmly onto the receiver until it clicks into place with no gaps.
  3. Check it is secure – give it a gentle tug. If it slides off easily, refit it before wearing.
  4. Insert your hearing aid as normal.

Never wear a dome that is torn or has a damaged membrane. If a dome comes off in your ear, don’t try to remove it with tools, contact your audiologist or book an appointment with Sound Hearing.

Cleaning and Care

  • Wipe the dome and membrane daily with a soft, dry cloth.
  • Hearing aid wipes or sprays are fine if they are water- or alcohol-based with no soap or fragrance.
  • Never poke the membrane with a cotton bud, pin or brush – this can tear it.
  • Keep hairspray and creams away from your hearing aids.
  • Replace the dome if it becomes discoloured, stiff, torn or loose, or if sound stays muffled after cleaning.

Who Are EasyGuard Domes For?

  • Phonak RIC wearers who get frequent wax blockages or change filters every week.
  • Anyone who finds wax filters fiddly to change.
  • NHS Phonak users who want to upgrade from standard domes.
  • Active people whose hearing aids face sweat, dust or humidity.
  • New hearing aid users who want the simplest possible care routine.

Phonak EasyGuard Domes FAQ

Are EasyGuard domes compatible with my Phonak hearing aids?

Phonak EasyGuard domes are compatible with most Phonak receiver-in-canal hearing aids from Marvel onwards, including Paradise, Lumity and Infinio. They also work with Unitron Smile, Vivante, Blu, and Discover Next hearing aids. EasyGuard domes fit Standard (S), Medium (M) and Power (P) receivers – the same receivers as Phonak Domes 4.0. If you are unsure, check the receiver markings or contact us.

Do EasyGuard domes replace wax filters?

No. Keep your CeruStop filter fitted; the membrane catches most wax first, so the filter lasts much longer. You can buy CeruStop wax filters here when you need them.

How often should I replace EasyGuard domes?

Replace them roughly every 1 to 2 months, depending on how much earwax you produce. Replace a dome straight away if it is torn, discoloured or loose.

How do I clean the membrane?

Gently wipe it with a soft, dry cloth. You do not need to remove the dome from the receiver to clean it.

Will EasyGuard change how my hearing aid sounds?

The membrane is designed to be sound-transparent, so staying with the same style and size should sound the same. Switching style (for example, Open to Power) can change the sound, so speak to your audiologist first.

Can I return an opened pack?

Unfortunately not – for hygiene reasons, opened domes are non-returnable. Unopened packs can be returned under our terms and conditions.
